Are you sure? What the heck do we actually need to do to get this thing moving?
Alright, here’s the plan: we’re going to travel for a year. No super detailed itinerary, no rigid schedules. We’ll pick different locations, and leave it up to last-minute planning and our questionable decision-making skills to figure out where we go next. Sounds thrilling and just a little bit reckless, right?
The first big step? We posted our house for rent. And suddenly, it became real.
Before we knew it, we had six applicants lined up to see the house! Cue the shock and panic. Then came the cleaning spree—top to bottom, every nook and cranny. Then we stared at each other with wide eyes and asked, “Are we really doing this?”
Sure enough, a few days later, we found renters! And then reality hit us hard: we had to pack up the house. Packing. The word alone felt daunting. We always knew it had to be done, but we wildly underestimated how much stuff one household can accumulate. Lucky for us, we had about six weeks to get it all done. Spoiler alert: it took every single one of those six weeks!
What exactly did we do? We decided to rent our house partially furnished. That meant leaving the big stuff behind—the couches, beds, and dining table stayed put. But that still left piles of our personal belongings to be packed and moved out. Easier said than done.
Thankfully, a fantastic family member generously offered some basement space to store our “treasures.” Not sure they knew what they were signing up for! After six weeks of boxing, inventorying, and moving, we capped it all off with a 16-hour marathon moving and cleaning day. That’s when we officially handed over the keys to our renters and officially kicked off this wild adventure.
Stay tuned—because the journey is just beginning!
